Our process

Clear steps. Thoughtful decisions.

You work directly with Russ, who brings decades of Maine building experience to your decisions.

Here is where the conversation begins, what to bring, and what to discuss as your project develops.

01

Start with the property and the people.

You work directly with Russ from the first conversation. Discuss the location, what you hope to build or change, and how you want to live. Share where you are in the property search or design process, along with your priorities and anticipated timing.

Bring: a town or address, a broad scope, and any plans or reference images you already have.

02

Plan the work before the build.

Russ coordinates with clients and the design team on early budgeting, constructability, material selections, and the construction schedule. For a remodel, understanding the existing home is part of that planning.

Talk through: site access, existing conditions, design readiness, investment goals, and material lead times.

03

Coordinate construction and decisions.

Russ guides decisions as construction moves forward. The team coordinates the work and keeps clients and the design team informed. Progress, upcoming work, and outstanding selections are useful subjects for your project conversations.

Discuss early: your preferred contact method, the people involved in decisions, and how you will review selections.

04

Resolve the details together.

Cabinetry, trim, finishes, and fittings need to work with the architecture of the room. Our own millwork shop connects the larger construction project with fitted details throughout the home.

A change can affect scope, cost, and timing. Bring those implications into the discussion with the project team.

05

Walk through the finished home.

The final stage includes reviewing the completed work together and addressing the remaining details before handover.

Use the walkthrough to discuss the finished work and any remaining questions about the home.

Before we begin

A few useful questions.

Do I need completed drawings before getting in touch?

You can start the conversation while exploring ideas. Tell us whether you are looking for property, have a site, are working with a design professional, or already have drawings.

Can you work with our architect or designer?

Yes. Coordination with the client’s architect and design team is part of our custom-home and remodeling work. Include their names and the current design stage in your inquiry.

Do you also build away from the water?

Yes. We build custom homes and undertake substantial remodels throughout Southern Maine. Coastal and waterfront homes are a specialty; the portfolio also includes wooded and inland properties.

What should we discuss about a coastal property?

Bring available drawings, surveys, and any known planning information. Discuss exposure, drainage, access, and material choices with the design team, along with which shoreland, flood, setback, or lot-coverage questions need investigation by the appropriate local professionals. Requirements depend on the actual property; a general conversation does not establish permit approval.

Can we begin while living out of state?

Yes. Share the Maine town or property, the scope you have in mind, and your design stage. Discuss communication preferences, site visits, who will make decisions, and how selections will be reviewed as part of planning the project.

What should we bring for a substantial remodel?

Photographs, available plans, and a description of the changes you are considering are useful starting points. Include what you want to retain, whether the home will be occupied, your anticipated timing, and any architect or designer already involved.

What if our budget or timing is still taking shape?

A rough construction investment goal and an anticipated timeframe are helpful starting points. Share what you know; the scope, site, design stage, and current workload will help shape the next conversation.
